For our film opening, we were doing some background research on how teenagers are portrayed in television series and their acting skills, in order to give our actors some advice. While watching a series called 'Home and Away' (Channel 5), we came across and song which was playing in the background of one episode which would be ideal for our film opening. It is called 'Never Be The Same // The Rubens'. This is because the song gives the feel that (in terms of our film opening sequence) that both Emma and Oscar feel alone. For example, Oscar is starting at a new school and Emma has bad experiences which shows her what she has and appreciates what she's got - hence the lyrics fit. Lyrics I found myself that day There was no other way I'd spent some time away I'd never be the same
I finally was awake Like water to my face I'd finally found my place I'd never be the same I'd never be the same
It took something bad, to show me what I had It took something sad, to remember who I am I was forced to change I'm not sure who to thank Yeah I was such a waste
I'd never be the same I'd never be the same It took something bad, to show me what I had It took something sad, to remember who I am
I found myself that day There was no other way I'd spent some time away I'd never be the same
In order to use this song, we had to contact the band themselves, so we looked at their website (http://therubensmusic.com) could only find them on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The only social networking site in which we would contact them directly was their Facebook page, in which we messaged them.
This is the official music video to 'Never been the Same'.
I have been brainstorming some names for our movie, Mr Cole my media teacher helped me initially with some ideas and I expanded on them. We looked at song lyrics that tie in with the storyline, then thought of the song 'Katy Perry, the one that got away' its about losing someone, which links in with the plot of Oscar leaving Emma after finding out about her home life, when Emma has fallen in love with him.
Then I had an idea of linking in Time with it, as Emma has to wait for Oscar to accept her personal life, until Emma's mum lashes out and has no one to call but the one she loves who happens to want nothing to do with her. "In another Life"- is part of the lyrics from a 'the one that got away', it means that in another life, Oscar would happily be with Emma but because of her home life he doesn't want to get involved. 'Now Stay'- is another option, after Emma phones Oscar up when her mother hits her does this mean the turning point for him to change his mind and go back for her. WE DECIDED OUR OPENING WILL BE CALLED................ IN ANTHER LIFE!
As we haven't got much dialogue in our 2 minute opening, a script in our eyes wasn't vital, but we felt we needed one in the shots and positions, so we didn't just film without a plan. Pan up of Emma's House To then pan down to Oscars house. Shot of Toby in double bed asleep,Mid shot showing bed, him and phone which will be in next shot of him. Shot of Zoe in a single bed also asleep, make it look messy, dark and dull- Mid shot of Zoe and bed.
Same shot type as before of Toby, this time he is getting up and putting his glasses on, and turning off the alarm of phone. As Toby swipes his 'expense' phone alarm off, the shot is a close up on it. Extreme close up of Zoe's eyes mainly as she gets woken up, most of shot is her eyes closed and then suddenly open
Mother (we will get an adult with a strong loud voice to shout this) "GET UP YOU LAZY SOD AND SORT YOUR BROTHER OUT!"
Toby then gets out of bed and sits there as he has time to relax because he has no chores to be getting on with. Shot shows more of the room, mid-long shot. Switches to Zoe who has to hurry and get out of bed and ready, walks out of mid shot to show more of room and emphasizes her rush, shot remains on bed. Toby opens curtains in mid shot. Zoe opens curtains in mid shot. Long shot of most of his bedroom as Toby walks past in top and pants, shot slightly follows his movement. Close up of Zoe's bottom half as she sits of bed pulling up her tights.
Mid Shot of Toby's bottom half standing putting on his trousers Close up of Zoe putting on skirt, this will be a short 1-2 seconds as its nor important. Toby puts on shirt in mid shot, of his facing the camera. Zoe puts on shirt but the shot is from the back. Slow pan of following Toby's fingers as he buttons up his shirt. Slow pan of Zoe doing up her shirt too. Short shot of Toby doing up his tie (tightening it) Short shot of Zoe doing up his tie (tightening it) Low mid shot focusing on Toby's legs as he walks out of room to go down the stairs, a slight pan following him. Long shot of Zoe walking out of room , towards camera and out of shot. Mid shot of the stairs and Toby walks down them. Shot of the hallway as Toby exits the stairs and walks down the hall, still no upper body shot. Shot of Zoe's legs as she walks down the stairs, she is dressed in her uniform. Pan of work surface in the kitchen, showing wealth, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, Toby will then push the toaster down as it stops. Pan of work surface in Zoe's kitchen, broken bottles, glasses can, showing mess. Cut to Toby eating toast at breakfast table- the shot will be face on as someone sitting opposite him Zoe walks in to her kitchen, pan to follow her to show full kitchen shot. In same shot Zoe looks in cupboards for food but there isn't anything to eat. Wide shot of kitchen as Toby's bag is on surface , he walks past and picks it up. Shot focusing on the bag, Zoe walks past picks it up and opens door. Front on view of front door, Toby walks up and opens turns back and shouts
Toby- Bye Mum"
Mother- "Bye sweetheart, have a great day!"
Close up of door handle as Zoe opens it and the shot finishes as she shuts it.
CREDITS WILL RUN THROUGH BETWEEN SHOTS AND CERTAIN PARTS MAY BE CUT OUT, THE COMPANY NAME (I-DENT) WILL BE SHOWN AT THE START.
This is our storyboard of our movie, its very brief but gives us a simple idea of what is happening throughout, we need to have a variety of shots to keep it interesting, and shots will be different lengths, the average shot length is 3 seconds.
We have problems with deciding when to do our filming, Laura has work on a Saturday, since the filming of the wealthy boy is done at my fathers house, I'm not there that often as I have other commitments and he has a very busy life. We also need to find a time when the actors are available as we cant film in an evening because it gets dark quite early and our filming will take a while, and our opening is filmed in a morning. Also one of our actors is also a media student as will be filming his production soon too, we need to work around a lot of hurdles but hopefully our movie will be successful in the end.
-We cant decide on during the opening whether we should have background music, if we did it then the music would have to change because of the difference in daily routines of getting ready for school. Or do we have voice over of the boy and girl, of what they are thinking in their heads.

Laura, Natalie and myself have had a few ideas of who could play the roles of Oscar and Emma, we need people who are willing and enthusiastic to play the parts, they also need to fit the role well in physical terms too. The character needs to be available and flexible in case we need to re-film a shot, or do it a certain day, as we are at sixth form with lots of work to do, there may be days where we have a last minute filming session. Possible people to play EMMA: Naomi Knight- She currently goes to Wymondham High Sixth Form and is 17 years old. She would fit the role of Emma pretty well due to her appearance and height, she is similar age to the character too. Naomi goes to our sixth form and is flexible for times, she would be there if we needed her to quickly re-film something.
Zoe Martell- Zoe also goes to sixth form and is a GCSE drama student this means she is comfortable in front of the camera or audience. She is similar age to Emma the character, also her appearance is what we aim for the character to be like.
Possible people to play OSCAR: Matt Wright- He also goes to the same sixth form as us, Matt has the same height, build and appearance to what we had in mind, he is also the same age. Matt is available because he goes to the same sixth and has similar free periods, so that would be convenient for is. Matt is also well spoke, as our character comes from a wealthy background this would fit into the role very well.
Toby Setters- Also age 17 and goes to sixth form, he is a dramas student at GCSE and A-LEVE, therefore will have experience in front on the camera. Toby is flexible on his timings, we need to consider if he would fit the role well or not.
10 things I hate about you- Kat Stratford
A new kid must find a guy to date the meanest girl in school, the older sister of the girl he has a crush on, who cannot date until her older sister does.
I am focusing on Kat Stratford- who is the meanest girl in school ,and needs to date someone so her younger sister can. She is a proud, unsociable, non-conforming feminist who listens to Riot Grrrl music and reads books such as The Bell Jar. She is against dating and often 'sneers at the idiocy of teenage social life.
At the start of the story Kat is portrayed as a stubborn teenager but throughout the movie when Patrick Verona, has to date he, he slowly falls for her. Trying to win her heart throughout film Kat changes and become more vulnerable, she finds out Patrick is only' trying to date her' because her sister cant have a boyfriend until she does. But he is starting to actually like her, and she is back. I wanted to focus on Kat (Julia Stiles) because she is portrayed as a mean, tough girl but really is different when someone pays attention to her.
Harry Potter- Lord Voldemort
Lords Voldemort (Tom Marvolo Riddle) is a fictional character in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter, he first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone released in 1997. Voldemort is Harry's arch-enemy who according to the prophecy has "the power to vanquish the Dark Lord". Almost no witch or wizard dares to speak his name, instead they referred to him as "He who should not be named", "the Dark Lord" or "You know Who". He is the leader of the Death Eaters, a group of evil wizards and witches dedicated to ridding the Wizarding world of Muggles and establishing Voldemort as its supreme ruler by conquering both worlds to achieve his dominance.
Writer J.K Rowling Describes Voldemort as having 'pale skin, a chalk white, skull-like, snake -like slits for nostrils, red-eyes m cat like slits for pupils, a skeletally thin body and long thin hands with unnaturally long fingers. He also has no hair or lips, Rowling also describes Voldemort as 'the most evil wizard of hundreds of years'. She elaborated that he us a 'raging psychopath, lacking the normal human responses to other people's suffering' and whose only ambition in life is to become omnipotent and immortal. He us also a sadist who hurts and murders people- especially Muggles. He has no conscience, feels no remorse, does not recognize the worth of anyone else but himself. Voldemort feels no need for human companionship/friendship and cannot comprehend love or affection for anyone.
Forrest Gump- Forrest Gump
He is the main character in this movie. Played by Tom Hanks, he is a simple minded man born in Greenbow, Alabama. After getting into the Alabama public school despite his low IQ level, Forrest Gump goes on to live a life full of adventures.
Forrest Gump provides the viewer with a unique perspective of the world, from innocence and ignorance. Its ironic that Forrest overcomes the difficulties of challenges by being challenged himself. Its is his ignorance to pressure of life and innocence to the world that causes him to be successful, he is so naïve to the things that Jenny knows and has experienced that his character becomes the enviable one. Though "stupid is as stupid does", Forrest proves not be "stupid" But views the world like no other. His thoughts are very child-like and innocent, because of his innocence he has no prejudice against coloured people, foreigners, different religious believers or the disabled.
